Belgium opened their Euro 2020 championship campaign with an emphatic 3-0 win over Russia in the second Group B match of the night at the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg.

Finland defeated Denmark in the first group match that ended in a moody atmosphere after it was earlier abandoned following Christian Eriksen’s collapse on the pitch before halftime, needing emergency medical attention for 10 minutes on the pitch before he was stabilised and taken to the hospital.

Eriksen’s Inter Milan teammate, Romelu Lukaku, continued his goalscoring run by bagging a brace on the night to give the Red Devils a good start in the championship.

Lukaku broke the deadlock just 10 minutes into the game before heading to a television camera to send a heartfelt message to Eriksen, saying “Chris, Chris, I love you.”

Roberto Martinez’s side took control of the game as substitute Thomas Meunier made it 2-0 in the 34th minute.

Lukaku completed his brace by netting the third goal in the 88th in front of a heavily pro-Russian crowd of 26,264 spectators.

The former Manchester United striker has been directly involved in 26 goals in his last 19 appearances for Belgium in all competitions, scoring 22 and assisting four, according to OptaJoe.
