Sweden defeated Slovakia 1-0 in their second EURO 2020 match on Friday to boost their chances of a round of 16 qualification ticket from Group E.

Emil Forsberg scored Sweden’s first goal of the competition with a 77th-minute penalty, sending the Swedish team top of the group ahead of Slovakia, Spain and Poland.

The game lacked intensity in the first half.
But the Swedes returned from the break looking refreshed and kept asking questions of the Slovakians defence in the second half.
They were eventually rewarded with a penalty when Slovakia’s goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, brought down substitute, Robin Quaison in the box.

Forsberg’s goal hands Sweden four points after frustrating Spain to a goalless draw in their opening group game at the Estadio de La Cartuja Stadium on Monday.

Unlike their game against Spain where Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof took the spotlight for his defensive excellence, Real Sociedad striker, Alexander Isak, took the centre stage as he threatened Slovakia’s defence endlessly.

Slovakia who defeated Poland in their opening game will need at least a draw against Spain if they are to make it through to the knockout stages of the competition.
