An Ethiopian Airlines plane skidded off the runway at Juba International Airport in Juba, the capital city of South Sudan on Tuesday evening.

The flight was reportedly taking off from Juba to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia when the accident took place around 6:30 pm.

Wet conditions are being blamed for the accident which caused extensive damage to the aircraft.

The plane “slipped off the runway” as it was taking off, the director of the airport, Kur Kuol said.

“Everyone is safe,” Kuol told Eye Radio.
