Ethiopian Airlines pays NCAA sanction fee over rights violations

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that Ethiopian Airlines has paid the sanction fee imposed on it earlier this year for violating consumer protection regulations.

Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, Michael Achimugu, disclosed this on Monday through his official X handle.

He said that with Ethiopian Airlines’ payment, all three international carriers sanctioned by the Authority in 2025 have now complied fully.

Achimugu explained that the sanctions were corrective, not punitive, and were meant to improve service delivery and ensure that airlines operating in Nigeria uphold passenger rights.

“The sanctions are intended to help improve the services of the operators and not to punish them,” he said.

He reaffirmed the NCAA’s commitment to protecting the interests of passengers and operators across the aviation sector.

Earlier this year, the NCAA had sanctioned three international airlines for poor customer service and violations of passenger rights.
