EPL: Saka, Havertz fire Arsenal to 2-0 win over Wolves

Published

Arsenal began their Premier League title bid with a strong 2-0 victory against Wolves on Saturday, thanks to an impressive performance from Bukayo Saka.

The young England winger played a crucial role in the win at the Emirates Stadium.

Germany forward Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the first half, finishing off a perfect assist from Saka. After halftime, Saka secured the win with a stunning goal, showcasing his talent and determination.

Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, was full of praise for Saka’s performance. “Bukayo had an unbelievable action to score the 2-0. With good players, it’s like that. With (Lionel) Messi, I know he’s going to come in and do that, but you can’t stop him,” Arteta said, comparing Saka’s brilliance to that of the legendary Messi.

Arteta also acknowledged the importance of starting the season on a high note. “First half we were really good,” Arteta said. “Really aggressive, really intense. A lot of purpose to our attack. A lot of threat in the box. We generated a lot. We probably should have scored two or three. Second half we became a bit sloppy. What I see is the willingness. With the first game, you have some uncertainty in how you will respond against a really difficult opponent. Score two, clean sheet, win.”

Last season, Arsenal came close to winning the title but were edged out by Manchester City, finishing just two points behind. Despite the disappointment, Arteta’s team remains hungry for success. Arsenal hasn’t won the Premier League title since the 2003-04 season, when Arsene Wenger’s ‘Invincibles’ went unbeaten.

Arteta’s unconventional methods, like hiring professional pickpockets to teach his players the importance of staying alert, have kept the team focused. However, he knows that taking the title from Manchester City will be a tough challenge.

The match against Wolves highlighted Arsenal’s strengths. After early pressure from Arsenal, Havertz broke the deadlock in the 25th minute with a well-placed header from Saka’s pinpoint cross. Wolves tried to respond, with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Jorgen Strand Larse testing Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya.

Arsenal maintained their dominance, with Declan Rice, Gabriel Martinelli, and Thomas Partey all coming close to adding to the scoreline. Finally, in the 74th minute, Saka sealed the victory with a powerful strike, making it clear that Arsenal is determined to challenge Manchester City for the title this season.
