Tottenham boss, Ange Postecoglou sheds light on Son Heung-min’s leadership qualities, emphasizing that despite his amiable persona, Son doesn’t shy away from addressing issues when they arise.
Following an incident at the Asian Cup where Son, Tottenham Hotspur’s captain, suffered a dislocated finger amid a disagreement within the South Korean squad, Postecoglou defended Son’s role, attributing it to his leadership style.
“While Son is widely known for his positive demeanor, he holds himself and his team to high standards,” Postecoglou remarked. “He’s not afraid to speak up when things aren’t right, even if it’s unpopular.”
Postecoglou emphasized that Son’s affable nature doesn’t negate his competitive spirit and quest for excellence. “Son may be cordial and respectful, but he’s also a fierce competitor with lofty standards,” he added.
Acknowledging the comparisons to legendary figures like Roy Keane, Postecoglou highlighted the essence of authenticity in leadership. “Leadership is about being true to oneself,” he noted.
Addressing queries about Son’s return to the pitch after his Asian Cup involvement, Postecoglou confirmed Son’s readiness for Tottenham’s upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, following his impactful performance off the bench in the previous game against Brighton & Hove Albion.
