Manuel Pellegrini’s future as the West Ham United manager hinges on the outcome of the club’s next two matches, with David Moyes the leading contender to succeed him.
West Ham are one point above the Premier League relegation places after yesterday’s 2-1 loss away to Crystal Palace and the club’s owners will review Pellegrini’s position after the games at home to Leicester City tomorrow and away to Bournemouth on Wednesday.
The East London club considered appointing Moyes last month but some inside the club wanted to give Pellegrini the chance to turn around results.
The Times reports that Pellegrini, 66, is on the brink after a run of just two wins in 13 matches.
The latest setback came yesterday against Crystal Palace who managed to come from 1-0 down to win 2-1 thanks to a cracking late goal from Jordan Ayew.
Next up for West Ham is a home game against high-flying Leicester City and then an away trip to fellow strugglers Bournemouth.
The Times also claims that Pellegrini’s future rests on those two matches.
Their struggles have come despite spending big in the summer with the £36million arrival of striker Sebastien Haller and attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals for £25m.
Should West Ham make a change, The Times claim Moyes is at the head of the queue.
Moyes, 56, managed The Irons on a six-month deal during the 2017/18 season during which time he steered them clear of relegation trouble.
