A magistrate court in Enugu State has sentenced a 34-year-old man, Ejike Nnam, to imprisonment. This came after convicting him of conspiracy and robbery involving a stolen mobile phone.

According to The PUNCH, the Enugu State Police Command disclosed the conviction in a statement. This statement was issued by its spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe.

Police said Nnam was arrested after allegedly snatching an iPhone XR valued at N240,000 from a woman along Bisalla Road in Enugu on October 8.

The suspect reportedly carried out the act alongside an accomplice who remains at large.

Police confirm Enugu robbery conviction

Ndukwe explained that Nnam was arrested shortly after the incident. He was arraigned before the Enugu North Magistrate Court the following day.

He pleaded guilty to the charges and was subsequently convicted.

“He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for conspiracy and five years for robbery, with both sentences to run concurrently,” the police statement said.

The ruling means the sentences will be served simultaneously, rather than consecutively.

The police also disclosed a separate arrest involving a 29-year-old man, Richard Chukwuma. He is suspected of stealing alcoholic drinks from a supermarket.

Chukwuma was arrested on October 7 over the alleged theft of a bottle of whisky valued at N30,150.

During questioning, he reportedly admitted to stealing 15 bottles of the same drink previously.

Police said he was arraigned on October 9 and remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the court for the prompt handling of Nnam’s case.

He urged the judiciary and law enforcement authorities to sustain efforts towards timely prosecution of criminal cases.
