A member of the Enugu State House of Assembly representing Isi-Uzo constituency, Eze Gabriel, has officially defected from the Labour Party to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Gabriel made the announcement on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, when he presented a letter to the Speaker of the House, Uche Ugwu, during the plenary session. In his letter, Gabriel cited “irreconcilable divisions and persistent crisis” among party members and leaders as the primary reasons for his decision to leave the Labour Party.

He noted that what was once a party known for progressive ideals had increasingly become synonymous with strife and internal conflict, which he said had hindered the progress of its members. Gabriel specifically pointed to the ongoing crises at both the national and state levels. At the national level, he mentioned the disputes between Julius Abure and Nenadi Usman, while at the state level, he highlighted the rift between Kingsley Ugwu and Casmir Agbo as examples of the disunity affecting the party.

In his letter, Gabriel expressed confidence that the PDP would provide the necessary support for him to further his political ambitions.
