Enugu gov flags off 71 urban roads construction

Published

Four months after assuming office, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has flagged off construction of 71 urban roads and a 40km dual carriageway.

The governor said that the funds for the projects had been secured and that the state government would stick to the December 2023 completion date for the urban roads.

As you know, we will not be able to go to all the roads one after the other to flag off the construction, but this is consistent with the promise we made to the people of Enugu, and also consistent with the contract we executed on our first day of office to deliver a people focused governance. For us, this is essentially what the government is designed to do; to bring governance closer to the people and to provide infrastructure,” he said

He said that the first phase of the urban road project would cover 26 square kilometers comprising the Happy Island, the Vitality Bay, and the Innovation Park in line with the purposes the New City is to serve.

Mbah also flagged off construction of the 40km Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Neke-Ikem dual carriageway, saying that the new government was bent on constructing at least 10,000km of roads in the next eight years to open the space for investors and make life better for Enugu people.
