The newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, has declared all suspensions previously imposed on party members by the dissolved Ugochukwu Agballa-led executive as null and void.
Nwoye, who returned to the helm of the state party leadership following the dissolution of the Agballa-led executive by the APC National Working Committee last Thursday, made this known while addressing a large crowd of party leaders and supporters at the party’s state secretariat in Enugu on Saturday.
Among those earlier suspended under the previous leadership were notable figures such as former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Governor Sullivan Chime, former Speaker and now Secretary of the caretaker committee Barr. Eugene Odoh, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama, and ex-Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu.
Describing the suspensions as a “political caricature,” Nwoye said such actions only weakened the party’s structure and sowed division. He insisted the actions carried out by the previous leadership, whether through audio messages, letters, or radio broadcasts, had no standing.
“How can you suspend the very people you need to win elections?” Nwoye queried.
He emphasized the need to rebuild the party through reconciliation and reintegration, stressing that no member should be left behind due to past internal rifts. According to him, the APC national leadership tasked him with reuniting the party in Enugu State and preparing it for the political challenges ahead.
Nwoye also highlighted the changing political climate in the state following the emergence of Governor Peter Mbah. He described the governor’s rise as a defining moment that has brought a new dawn for the party in Enugu.
He warned that continued disunity would be detrimental to the APC’s prospects in the state. “With the right strategy and unity of purpose, APC will not remain on the sidelines in Enugu. We will be the party that sets the agenda and defines the next political direction of this state,” he stated.
Speaking earlier upon arrival at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, Nwoye expressed optimism about the state’s future under Governor Mbah. He praised the governor’s developmental strides across sectors, noting his contributions over the past two years.
He further remarked that Mbah’s interest in the APC is not for personal gains but for the benefit of the people of Enugu State.
Our correspondent observed scenes of celebration at the airport, where hundreds of APC members gathered to welcome Nwoye and members of his committee upon their return from Abuja.
