Nigerian Hip Hop recording artist, Olamide Gbenga Adedeji aka Olamide Badoo has said that surviving in the ghetto propelled him to fame.
Olamide, in an interview with Guardian UK, disclosed that at some point, eating three square meals was a luxury his family could barely afford.
The 32-year-old singer further explained that living in the slums was what motivated his hustle because he just wanted to experience the world differently.
"Surviving was hard. Bariga was not far from the other slums you see across the world, from Mumbai to New York and London – life in the ghetto is almost always the same everywhere".
"There were days when being able to afford three square meals was a big deal for my family. All of that motivated me to hustle hard – I wanted to see the whole world and experience different cultures from what I grew up seeing."
Presently, Olamide has released several albums and collaborated with different talented artistes in Nigeria.
He is the founder of Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL) Nation Label, an independent record label founded in 2012
The name is slang which refers to a young boy making money with no illegal dealings.
Currently, it has signed many artistes like Lil Kesh, Chinko Ekun, Adekunle Gold, D J Enimoney, Picazo, Temmi Ovwasa, and many more.
While the likes of Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh have left, some are still with the label company.
