Actor, Alec Baldwin, has taken to the defence of Chris Rock after he was slapped by Will Smith while presenting at the just concluded 2022 Oscars.

WuzupNigeria reported that Smith smacked Rock for making a bald joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia.

While many have condemned Rock for making the insensitive joke, others expressed shock over Smith's action, as they condemn violence.

Reacting, Baldwin tweeted his support for Chris Rock as he compared the award show to “The Jerry Springer Show,” according to PageSix.

“I am not reading much about how, or even if, the producers attended to Chris,” Baldwin wrote.

“But I love you, @chrisrock,” added the actor. “And I’m sorry the Oscars turned into the Jerry Springer show.”

Meanwhile, the Academy tweeted a statement condemning violence after the incident.

"The Academy does not condone violence of any form.

"Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world."
