Big Brother Naija's former housemate, Venita Akpofure has challenged celebrities to take the responsibility of warning their fans when they use words that aren't pleasant or victimize others on the Internet.
The British-Nigerian actress and video vixen, who spoke in a PUNCH interview, said celebs should also learn to apologise publicly when they call people out on social media and, later, realise they were wrong.
According to her, she would apologize to anyone on social media if she did anything wrong.
She said: "Social media is toxic. There are some things I believe people should be responsible for. For example, if I have a fan base that spews hate online, I would call them to order but some people feel they don't owe that social responsibility to anyone.
"But, they do. I am not afraid to offend any fan on that basis. I am quite outspoken and I don't hide my feelings. I think it is the social responsibility of celebrities to caution their fans."
She added, "I am not one to dictate how anyone should handle their issues because we are all responsible for our actions and the consequences that follow them. Unfortunately, whether one is right or wrong, social media does not really care.
"Some years ago, I called out a public figure but did that resolve the issue? This means I have the social responsibility of taking back my words on social media. If I call out anyone publicly and I feel I was wrong, I would apologize in public too.
"I don't believe I should apologize in secret after I had attacked the person publicly. The person may not need me to apologize publicly because I had done it in person but because of my integrity, I would do it."
Recall that Venita was previously married to Tema Olusola Tara and they have two daughters. In 2019, she debunked rumours of her failed marriage with her husband and reports of domestic violence as she said they were untrue.
Venita is a British-Nigerian actress and video vixen who was born in the United Kingdom and also hails from delta State in Nigeria.
She gained prominence as a housemate in the fourth season of Big Brother Naija, She plays the lead role of Nengi in Africa Magic's Unmarried.
