Wizkid, Tems fail to clinch 2021 BET Awards
Grammy award winner, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, fondly called Wizkid and Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, have failed in their quest to make it beyond the nomination stage of the 2021 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
Both artistes lost out in their respective category at the Awards ceremony, which held last night at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, United States. fellow Nigerian and eventual winner in the 2021 Best International Act category, Burna Boy.
Aside from Burna Boy, the category also has other great talents like French singer, Aya Nakamura; Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, Brazilian Emicida, Headie One from the United Kingdom, Youssopha, another young artiste from France and Young T & Bugsey from the United Kingdom.
In the Viewer’s Choice for Best New International Act, Nigeria’s Tems lost out to the eventual winner, Bree Runway, who is based in the United Kingdom.
Ghanaian-British artiste, Brenda Wireko Mensah, known professionally as Bree Runway, is an English singer, rapper, and songwriter from Hackney, London.
She signed to EMI Records in 2018 and subsequently released her first commercial EP Be Runway in August 2019, followed by her debut mixtape, 2000and4Eva, in November 2020.
Tems’ other contesting nominees who lost out were Arlo Parks from the United Kingdom, Bramsito — France, Elaine — South Africa, MC Dricka — Brazil, and Ronisia — France.
The ‘Viewer’s Choice for Best New International Act’ category was created to award breakthrough talent and emerging voices in music from around the world.
