Ghanaian police detain Shatta Wale for faking own shooting

The Ghana Police Service says it has arrested famous dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah aks Shatta Wale, for disseminating fake information that he was shot.

This development is coming hours after the singer turned himself in after he was declared by the police in connection with the phantom shooting.

WuzupNigeria had reported on Monday that the 'Ayoo' singer was shot yesterday in East Legon, Ghana.

The singer’s publicist, Nana Dope, subsequently followed up with a statement on his social media account stating that Shatta Wale had been transported to a hospital’s emergency department.

This triggered a response from the Ghanaian police, who stated on Facebook that they were looking for the singer, whose whereabouts were unknown at the time.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Ghana Police service via their official Facebook page stated that the singer turned himself in after they had declared him wanted.

They also arrested Shatta Wale for “creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic”.

The statement partly read, “The Police have arrested Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale. After we publicly declared him and one other person wanted, the suspect, Shatta Wale, turned himself in today Tuesday 19th October 2021, at 8.59 pm.

“He has been arrested to assist the Police in investigations for his alleged involvement in the creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic. As stated in previous statements, the public is advised to desist from publishing false information, capable of disturbing the peace of the country or risk being arrested and prosecuted.”
