Controversial media personality, Daddy Freeze, has dismissed reality TV star, Pere Egbi's claim that mobile phones should be switched off before planes are allowed to taxi off the runway.
WuzupNigeria reported that, on Friday, Pere had cautioned Nigerians on the need to follow instructions while boarding a plane.
He said that passengers should always endeavour to switch off their mobile devices when the plane is in motion or about to land.
Freeze, however, had a contrary opinion.
The radio personality stated that there is absolutely nothing a mobile phone can do to any modern aircraft.
He said; "Dear Nigerians, rest your minds, there is absolutely nothing a mobile phone can do to the equipment of a modern aircraft even if the mobile phone is on a call during landing and taking off
"I hereby challenge any pilot to debate this with me
"The only reason why you are told to switch off your phones is for security reasons
"So someone won't call from the flight and say there's a bomb or the plane is about to crash
"Knowledge is power!"
Reactions and backlash have greeted Daddy Freeze's comment as a number of social media users disagree with his position on the debate.
An Instagram user, @mrpresidennnt said; "It is important to turn off electric devices when traveling on a plane to eliminate radio waves that pose a risk to avionics technology on planes. Radio waves from electronic devices may interrupt vital components of airplanes hence the reason why. Turn it off
@bamiyojoyy said; "Mobile phones are meant to be turned off during landing and takeoff…… listen to safety instructions you wouldn’t listen.

@eronsman08 said; "Dear Nigerians,
"Don’t mind a man that use Ring light. Some airlines ban specific MacBook from boarding.
"Believe what Pere said for safety purposes plus on your phone it contains fly mode. There is reason for that. Thanks, From the Curtains"
