Grammy-winning singer, Adele, has admitted that she would have been miserable if she didn't divorce her ex-husband, Simon Konecki.

The Rolling In The Deep hitmaker opened up on their failed marriage in British Vogue whose cover she appeared on.

The 33-year-old revealed that she married Konecki secretly in early 2017, according to UK Sun.

Adele shares a 9-year-old Angelo with the charity magnate, whom she started dating in 2011.

Speaking to the publication, Adele admitted that she drifted from Simon. "It just wasn’t… It just wasn’t right for me anymore."

"I was just going through the motions and I wasn't happy," the Chasing Pavements singer revealed. "Neither of us did anything wrong.

"I didn’t want to end up like a lot of other people I knew I wasn’t miserable miserable, but I would have been miserable had I not put myself first.

"But, yeah, nothing bad happened or anything like that."

Adele also spoke on how she's healing from the heartbreak and moving forward.

She filed for divorce in September 2019, and after almost two years, the paperwork has been finalized and a judge has signed off on their settlement on March 4 2021, according to Us Weekly.

"After going through a divorce, my requirements are sky-high. There’s a very big pair of shoes to fill."

According to UK Metro, the British singer's upcoming album has a track particularly about ‘stuff that happened’ in terms of her relationship breakdown.

"I wanted to put it on the album to show Angelo what I expect him to treat his partner like, whether it be a woman or a man or whatever.

"Neither of us hurt each other or anything like that. It was just: I want my son to see me really love, and be loved. It's really important to me," she added.

Adele made it clear that she and Simon have never fought over their son Angelo, but went on to say that their little one was left "really unhappy" after she "dismantle[d] his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness."
