Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has warned his players against becoming comfortable with past success. He gave this warning after the French champions were forced to fight back for a 2-2 draw against Rennes.
According to The Punch, PSG trailed by two goals in their opening Ligue 1 fixture. Then substitute Ferran Torres struck twice to rescue a point.
Enrique demands more from PSG
The Spaniard said his team must approach the new campaign as though previous trophies no longer matter.
“Paris Saint-Germain have won nothing, nothing,” Enrique said. He stressed that players must prove themselves during every match and training session.
PSG entered the campaign as defending Ligue 1 champions and are also chasing a third consecutive Champions League title.
However, Rennes exposed weaknesses during the first half, forcing Enrique to make changes at the interval.
Torres rescues champions
Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were withdrawn, with Torres among those introduced.
The new signing responded by scoring twice to prevent PSG from beginning their league campaign with defeat.
Enrique praised the impact of his substitutes but acknowledged that his side struggled to control Rennes before the break.
He added that competition for places would become tougher this season. This will be the case as PSG attempt to maintain their dominance at home and in Europe.
