#EndSARS: Police reportedly charge three Ogun protesters with attempted murder

Published

The Ogun State Police Command has reportedly charged three #EndSARS protesters with attempted murder on Thursday.

According to @CitizenGavel, on Twitter, the three unnamed protesters were arrested during the peaceful protest on Friday, October 8.

The tech company said it failed to get the protesters out on bail after the police arraigned them before a magistrate court on Monday where they were charged with attempted murder.

“Three (3) of the Abeokuta protesters that were arrested on Friday were arraigned before a Magistrate Court today. Unfortunately, they were charged with “Attempted Murder” thus, we were unable to get them out on bail as the magistrate court does not have jurisdiction…”

The Guardian also reported that the civic tech organization, representing the protesters, said its lawyers “were unable to get them out on bail as the magistrate court does not have jurisdiction.”

The matter was further adjourned to the 28th day of October 2020.

The prosecution came by way of an application to remand the protesters in a correctional facility pending legal advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Guardian quoted Citizens’ Gavel.
