In the face of public outcry against the harassment and intimidation of Nigerian youths by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force, a man has narrated how he was illegally arrested and extorted by SARS operatives in Akure, Ondo state.
The man identified as Williams Fatayo shared the story via his Twitter handle, alleging that the SARS operatives extorted N10,000 from him and his friend after detaining them for three hours without any offense.
Fatayo said he had gone to Akure for official duty and decided to spend the weekend in the city before he was accosted by the SARS operatives on Friday morning who asked him to identify himself, he said he did and showed the operatives his identity card.
He said all his explanations fell on the deaf ears of the operatives who dragged him and his friend to their office, assaulted and extorted N10,000 from him.
He said after detaining him and his friend for three hours, they collected N10,000 from him before releasing them.
