Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has warned the public to be wary of misleading information that could lead to the second phase of destruction in Lagos State.
Recall that several public and private properties were looted and burnt by hoodlums who hijacked the EndSARS protests in Lagos in October.
They were inspired by fake videos and pictures shared on social media to buttress a claim that the Nigerian Army carried out a massacre on protesters at the Lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020.
The second wave of EndSARS protests began yesterday but was mostly on social media. The protesters are demanding an end to bad governance in Nigeria.
A video from the Lekki toll gate which was the epicentre of the first wave was shared on Twitter yesterday. It gave misleading information that the second wave had begun with as much momentum as the first.
In reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Olumuyiwa Adejobi, urged the public to disregard the video, saying it “could lead to break down of law and order in the state.”
To prevent another destruction, Bashir Ahmad warned against the activities of those he described as “hidden enemies of Lagos.”
He reminded the public that the government has granted the demands tabled by the first wave of EndSARS protests.
He tweeted, “If you’re truly a lover of Lagos, help to rebuild the recent unfortunate destructions, don’t be misled by hidden enemies of Lagos to cause the second phase of destruction and pain in the State. SARS is no more!”
He added, “A quick reminder, as Nigerians requested, the SARS, a defunct unit of the Nigeria Police Force has since been disbanded by the Force. So SARS is no more, don’t be allowed to be misled to cause another destruction and pain in Lagos and elsewhere.”
