A 20-year-old worker, Rasheed Taiwo, charged with stealing his employer’s phones valued at N139,000, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Taiwo, who resides at Dopemu, Agege area of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecuctor, Sgt. Olasunkanmi Adejumola, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 2, 2021 at Acme Road, Ikeja, Lagos.

Adejumola said that the defendant stole the two Android phones valued at N139,000, property of Jumai Nigeria.

“During routine check, it was discovered that two phones were missing.

“The recorded vedeo of the Closed Circuit Television was played and the defendant was captured stealing the phones.

“He was then handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.

Adejumola said that the offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the section stipulates seven years imprisonment for stealing from one’s employer.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Odubajo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Odubajo said that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until Feb. 16 for mention.
