Romina, sister to the late Argentine footballer, Emiliano Sala, has been left in critical condition in a hospital after allegedly trying to take her own life.
The 29-year-old was rushed to hospital in Santa Fe, northern Argentina, on Monday night after being found unconscious at her home, Daily Mail reports.
Romina, who has led the Sala family’s fight for justice over her brother’s tragic 2019 death, was found by a friend who went to check on her after receiving ‘concerning’ WhatsApp messages.
On Tuesday, doctors told Argentine newspaper La Nacion that Romina was “on a respirator and her condition is critical.
“We are working with an important group of specialists, trying to save her life,” they added.
Romina had become the Sala family’s de-facto spokesman when she flew to the United Kingdom to spearhead efforts to find her brother’s body after a plane he was on crashed in the English Channel.
Emiliano, a talented striker, had flew from French city Nantes to Cardiff on January 21, 2019, to complete a £15million transfer between clubs when his plane came down near the island of Guernsey.
WuzupNigeria reported that a search team was unable to find the wreck for two weeks until a private mission paid for by the family finally located it on February 8.
Emiliano’s body was found inside the shattered aircraft and taken back to Argentina to be buried.
Romina had continued to write and post about her brother on social media following his tragic death.
Sharing an image on his birthday, October 31, two years ago, she said, “There are no words that can describe the pain.
“Happy birthday brother! Where ever you are, give us the strength to go on. I wish everything were different… I promise you we will not stop until the end. Kisses to heaven.”
