A German soldier of the elite Special Commando Forces (KSK) is facing trial after a weapons cache and extremist material was found in his garden in May 2022.
While raiding the soldier’s premises, investigators discovered two kilograms of dynamite, several thousand pieces of ammunition, a crossbow, a smoke grenade as well as several firearms and arms parts, such as a silencer.
Investigators also found extremist documents, such as a songbook of the former Nazi SS militia, extreme-right magazines and stickers.
The man was released from custody in early December.
He now faces charges of violating war weapons control legislation and legislation on firearms and explosives.
The defendant will make a statement addressing the charges at the start of the trial in Leipzig, his lawyer Andrej Klein said.
Two police officers are to make witness statements.
