A 67-year-old man, Muhammad Uba, and his 52-year-old wife, Fatima Muhammad, tragically lost their lives in a fire outbreak at their residence in Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU, Ungogo Local Government Area, Kano State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, engulfing the couple’s home and leaving them trapped by smoke.
Spokesman for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.
He disclosed that the fire service received a distress call at about 1:45 am from Ahmad Abubakar, a staff member of the agency.
“The fire crew on duty from Bompai Fire Station were promptly mobilised and arrived at the scene by 1:51 am. Upon arrival, they found the fire under control but discovered that the couple had been trapped by smoke,” Abdullahi said.
The fire completely consumed the ground floor of the building, which served as the couple’s residence and measured approximately 50 by 25 feet.
Although the fire crew managed to rescue the victims unconscious and with burns on parts of their bodies, they were later confirmed dead by a doctor.
The remains of the deceased were handed over to the ward head of Rangaza, Muhammad Auwalu Rayyanu.
