Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, has recorded a major academic breakthrough as the National Universities Commission granted full accreditation to 18 of its academic programmes.

This achievement follows an accreditation exercise conducted by the NUC between October and November 2024. The university disclosed the development in a statement released on Monday by its Directorate of Information, led by Head of Directorate, Bode Olofinmuagun.

According to the statement, the approval was officially conveyed through a letter dated April 30, 2025. The letter, which confirmed the full accreditation status, was signed by Abraham Chundusu, Acting Director of Accreditation, on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary.

Olofinmuagun noted that the accreditation reaffirms EKSU’s position as a top-tier state university in Nigeria, pointing to the institution’s placement in the 2025 Times Higher Education ranking.

The newly accredited programmes cover a broad range of disciplines, including Administration, Arts, Education, Engineering, and the Social Sciences. These include M.Sc. Business Administration, Master of Personnel Management, M.Sc. Finance, Master of Public Administration, Master of Business Administration, Arabic Studies, Islamic Studies, and Philosophy.

Programmes in the education and engineering sectors also received full accreditation. These include Building and Woodwork Technology Education, Electrical and Electronic Technology Education, Metal and Auto Mechanic Technology Education, Christian Religious Studies Education, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, as well as Law, Geology, and Psychology.

Describing the development as a landmark achievement, EKSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Babatola Ayodele, said it was “a dream fulfilled,” attributing the success to the “dedicated efforts of both academic and administrative staff.”

“This accreditation is a testament to our commitment to delivering quality education and meeting the expectations of today’s knowledge-driven society,” Prof. Ayodele said.

He extended his gratitude to Ekiti State Governor and Visitor to the university, Biodun Oyebanji; the Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe; and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Akin Oyebode, for their steadfast support of the university’s development.

“This recognition further positions EKSU to meet the educational aspirations of Nigerian youths and provide training in innovative and high-demand disciplines,” he added.
