Ekiti resident in court over alleged N1.8m theft

A 58-year-old man, Olaomoyeni Solomon, on Monday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft of N1.8 million.

Solomon, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of stealing.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on February 14 at 10.00 a.m at Okeyinmi Area in Ado-Ekiti.

Okunade alleged that the defendant stole the sum from Grace and Mercy Household Improvement, Ado-Ekiti branch.

He noted that the offence contravened Section 390(d) (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ola-Olorun, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until April 14 for substantive hearing.
