Ekiti police dispel bank robbery rumors

Published

The Ekiti State Police Command has swiftly debunked a false social media report circulating on Tuesday, alleging a bank robbery in Ado-Ekiti and Ikere-Ekiti.

The command issued a statement on Tuesday, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abutu Sunday, refuting the claims and reassuring the public of their safety.

According to the PRO, the news of a bank robbery was entirely fictitious and concocted by individuals he referred to as “fake news peddlers” and “enemies of the state.”

In the statement, he said, “The Command wishes to state clearly that the trending news was just a mere imagination of some fake news peddlers and enemies of the state who derive joy in causing unnecessary apprehension in society.”

The Police urged the public to disregard the misinformation and clarified that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ogundare Dare, had taken immediate action.
