The Ekiti State Government has signed an agreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to implement the N70,000 minimum wage approved by the Federal Government.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Tuesday during a brief ceremony in Ado-Ekiti. Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, the state’s Head of Service, confirmed that the payment will begin immediately.

Olomojobi praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji for approving the payment despite the state’s limited resources. “This demonstrates the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare,” she said.

Labour leaders, including TUC Chairman Comrade Sola Adigun and NLC Chairman Comrade Olatunde Kolapo, commended the governor for ensuring the new wage applies to all workers, including pensioners, across parastatals and agencies.

Comrade Femi Ajoloko, Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Committee, described the agreement as fair and applauded Oyebanji for his generosity towards Ekiti workers.

As of now, 20 states in Nigeria have started paying the N70,000 minimum wage, with Lagos and Rivers paying N85,000.
