Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has signed into law the Ekiti State Property Protection (anti-land grabbing, second amendment law, 2024) to address the problem of illegal land acquisition in the state.

This move is part of efforts to regulate and improve land ownership processes and development in Ekiti.

Speaking during the signing of the law on Thursday, Governor Oyebanji said, “This law, when fully operational, will prohibit forceful entry, illegal occupation of landed properties, fraudulent and violent actions related to land in the state. I can assure you that we will implement that law to the letter, no matter who is involved.”

The governor signed two other laws: the High Court Law (First Amendment, 2014) and the Ekiti State Legislative House (Powers and Privileges) Law, 2024. He emphasized that these laws will contribute to the state’s development and assured the people that the next two years of his administration will see even greater achievements than the first two years.

“The next two years are going to be characterised by many achievements that will surpass the first two years. We enjoy goodwill with our people in Ekiti State, but we must not rest on our oars because we must avoid a reversal of the gains we have had in the last two years,” Oyebanji stated.

He also praised the Ekiti State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye, for their support in passing the necessary laws for the state’s progress. He said, “Without your support, there is no way we would have been able to do anything because you provided the legal framework that enables us to implement most of those decisions that have translated into the outcomes we are all proud of today.”

The Speaker, Adeoye Aribasoye, commended the governor for his commitment to Ekiti’s growth and said the new laws will advance the benefits of democracy to the people. He added that the House will continue to work closely with the executive to push for more development in the state.

Other key figures at the event included Deputy Governor Mrs. Monisade Afuye, Deputy Speaker Bolaji Olagbaju, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Habibat Adubiaro, and Head of Service Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi.
