The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 43-year-old man, Fafure Ben, in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged breach of peace and theft.
Ben, of no fixed address, is standing trial on two charges of breach of peace and theft.
The Police prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 7, at 1:30 p.m at Iworoko-Ekiti road, opposite Aromokeye in Ado-Ekiti.
Okunade alleged that Ben also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
He said the defendant also sold one diesel generator engine 195KV set without the consent of the owner, one Dr. Ayeni Clement.
The prosecutor further alleged that the engine, valued at N1.5 million, was given to the defendant for repairs in 2021, but he allegedly sold the engine and coveted the money.
According to Okunade, the offences contravene sections 249(d) and 383, punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He then asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Adekunle Aladesuyi, urged the Court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump same.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ola-Olorun, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Ola-Olorun adjourned the case until April 11, for further hearing.
