No fewer than eight security men were reportedly killed when gunmen attacked security checkpoints belonging to the police, Joint Military Task Force (JTF) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Rivers State.
The checkpoints, according to Leadership, were located between Elele and Omagwa communities in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.
It was gathered that the attacks occurred around 8 pm on Saturday, with fatalities – some of which were beheaded – including four policemen and two soldiers.
Several patrol vehicles were also reportedly set ablaze by the hoodlums.
Quoting a source in Elele, Leadership reported that two burnt corpses were recovered at JTF checkpoints in Elele while three other were recovered at the Customs checkpoint in same community.
The source said, “A rifle each was stolen from the JTF and Customs officers while two Hilux Pick-up vans with sirens were also carted away from the Customs.
“With all these gotten, they proceeded to attempt to attack Isiokpo Police Area Command but policemen repelled them.
“Police Officers in the area are on red alert as they are currently hunting for the attackers.”
