The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, has arrested eight individuals accused of vandalising public infrastructure in Abuja.

The Commandant of the FCT Command, Olusola Odumosu, announced on Wednesday that the suspects were caught during an operation by the NSCDC’s covert operatives and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Tactical Team.

The first group of suspects—Sani Garba, Umar Aminu, Adekunle Oluwatoyin Eniola, and Emmanuel John—was arrested at Idu Layout CITEC on Saturday around 2:10 a.m. They were found with vandalised solar panel poles.

Another group of four suspects—Hosea Christopher, Ali Musa, John Sylvester, and Idris Suleiman—was arrested on Sunday along the Bannex-Gishiri axis at 1:30 a.m. while attempting to transport five stolen streetlight poles.

Recovered items included five large streetlight poles, one solar panel pole, and over forty iron rods.

Commandant Odumosu condemned the destruction of public infrastructure, stressing the NSCDC’s dedication to protecting the FCT.

“We will not allow the efforts of the Honourable Minister of FCT in infrastructural development to be sabotaged by individuals working against the state,” Odumosu warned.

He further cautioned vandals to leave Abuja, saying, “We are not backing down until vandalism is brought to an end in the FCT.”
