Police in Borno State have arrested eight people for allegedly killing and secretly burying a newborn baby at a private hospital in Kwatam, along Baga Road in Maiduguri.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nahun Daso, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday.

Daso said the sad event happened on Friday, April 18, 2025, around 1:00 p.m.

He explained that police officers from Ite Division rushed to the hospital after receiving a distress call from residents who suspected foul play.

“Our officers quickly moved to the location, sealed off the hospital, and arrested the suspects,” Daso said.

He also said forensic experts were brought in to help with the investigation, and the baby’s body was later dug up for examination.

According to him, the arrested suspects have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for deeper investigation.

Daso called on the public to remain alert and to continue giving the police useful and honest information to help maintain peace and order.

“Community support is very important. We urge everyone to keep working with the police to make our society safer,” he added.
