Mohamed Al-Fayed, the former owner of Fulham FC and Harrods department store, has passed away at the age of 94.

The Egyptian-born businessman died Friday morning and was buried at London Central Mosque in Regent’s Park after Friday prayers.

Al-Fayed’s family confirmed the death, and Fulham FC released a statement confirming the death of the billionaire.

Mrs Mohamed Al-Fayed, her children and grandchildren wish to confirm that her beloved husband, their father and their grandfather, Mohamed, has passed away peacefully of old age on Wednesday August 30, 2023,” his family said in a statement released by the football club he once owned, Fulham FC.

“He enjoyed a long and fulfilled retirement surrounded by his loved ones. The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time.

Al-Fayed sold Harrods to Qatar Holdings in May 2010 and Fulham FC to US businessman Shahid Khan three years later.

He is also known for his long campaign following the death of his son, Dodi Fayed, who died in the same car as Princess Diana in a crash in Paris on August 31, 1997. Al-Fayed alleged that the crash was not an accident and was orchestrated by the British security services, but French and British police investigations concluded it was an accident.

In a statement released by Fulham FC, Everyone associated with Fulham owes Mohamed a debt of gratitude for what he did for our club, and our thoughts now are with his family and friends at this sombre time.”

Al-Fayed will be remembered for his outspoken manner, controversial purchase of Harrods, and ownership of Fulham FC and the Ritz hotel in Paris.

His business empire encompassed shipping, property, banking, oil, retail, and construction, and he was also a philanthropist whose foundation helped children in the UK, Thailand, and Mongolia.
