The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed 27 officers for alleged fraudulent activities and misconduct.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale announced the dismissal on Monday, stating that it followed recommendations from the commission’s Staff Disciplinary Committee and was approved by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.

“The core values of the Commission are sacrosanct and would always be held in optimal regard at all times,” the statement read.

Although the EFCC did not reveal the identities of the dismissed officers, Oyewale emphasized that every allegation against staff is thoroughly investigated. He also addressed a recent claim involving $400,000 against an unnamed staff member, stating that such allegations are always taken seriously.

The commission warned the public about impersonators and blackmailers posing as EFCC officials to extort money from individuals under investigation.

“Two members of an alleged syndicate, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, were recently arraigned before Justice Jude Onwuebuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja.

They allegedly contacted a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mohammed Bello-Kaka, and demanded $1 million, claiming it was for ‘soft landing’ on a non-existing investigation,” the statement revealed.

The EFCC described Chairman Olukoyede as a man of integrity who cannot be influenced by money and urged the public to report any suspicious activities by fraudsters pretending to be officials of the commission.
