The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has announced that it recovered over N365.4 billion and secured 4,111 convictions in 2024.

The Executive Chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede, made this known in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, at the end of a three-day retreat for EFCC directors. The event, themed “EFCC: The Journey So Far, Ensuring Professionalism and Integrity,” focused on the commission’s progress and future goals.

Olukoyede, in a statement released by the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Saturday, attributed these achievements to the commitment, sacrifice, and hard work of EFCC staff. He also promised that the commission would do even better in 2025.

“In 2024, the commission secured 4,111 convictions and recovered over N365.4 billion. I appreciate the sacrifice, discipline, and dedication of our staff. We must remain committed to ensuring integrity in all our processes,” Olukoyede said.

He stressed the importance of professionalism and integrity in the fight against corruption, stating that the EFCC workforce must remain honest, motivated, and effective.

He further assured Nigerians that in six months, he would deliver a reformed EFCC that would be more efficient in tackling corruption.

During the retreat, Professor Tonnie Iredia, who spoke on the role of information management in shaping public perception of the EFCC, noted that misconceptions about the commission’s work were often due to deliberate distortions.

He praised Olukoyede’s passionate and transparent leadership and urged Nigerians to support the EFCC in its fight against corruption.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, also commended the EFCC for its resilience and progress in the anti-corruption battle.

“The EFCC has come to stay,” Falana said, promising to work on legal challenges that might hinder the commission’s ability to fully deliver on its mandate.
