The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched an investigation into allegations made by social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, regarding a N15 million bribe allegedly paid by Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

The claims suggest that Bobrisky bribed EFCC officials to dismiss money laundering charges against him.

The controversy began after a viral video surfaced, where VDM played a voice recording of Bobrisky accusing some EFCC officers of collecting the bribe to drop the case. In response, the EFCC’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.

In a statement released on Tuesday, September 24, the EFCC confirmed that a special team of investigators has been assigned to probe the bribery allegations. Both Bobrisky and VDM have been invited to the EFCC’s Lagos office to assist with the investigation.

The EFCC emphasized its commitment to upholding transparency and integrity in its operations. “The Commission assures the public that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated and the findings made public,” the statement read.

Bobrisky’s legal issues have drawn public attention in the past, including a six-month prison sentence for money laundering and naira abuse earlier this year. Despite this, the EFCC has stated that it will investigate the bribery claims seriously.
