The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Makurdi Zonal Directorate, has arrested former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Moses Thomas Sule, along with 14 other former lawmakers, over alleged money laundering and abuse of procurement procedures.

The arrests were carried out on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, following petitions from concerned citizens who alleged that the former legislators violated provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Other arrested lawmakers include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Philip Gwom, Thomas Dantong, Happiness Mathew Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, and Agbalak Ibrahim.

Also apprehended were Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Bala Ndat, Salome Tanimu Wanglet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.

According to findings by EFCC investigators, the lawmakers in question held office for only six months but were allocated several luxury vehicles by the state government, valued at approximately N2.5 billion, for official duties. However, after their tenure ended, the vehicles were not returned to the state as required.

Repeated efforts by the government to recover the vehicles reportedly failed, prompting the state to purchase a new fleet for the current House members at an additional cost of about N2 billion.

The EFCC stated that the suspects would soon be formally charged in court.
