The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has detained 10 officers from its Lagos Zonal Command over allegations of stealing operational items.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, noting that the officers are being questioned as part of ongoing efforts to clean up the commission.

“The affected officers are being questioned regarding the theft of operational items they could not account for,” Oyewale said. “Investigators are making good progress, and those found guilty will face internal disciplinary processes.”

The arrest follows directives from EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, who has pledged to rid the commission of corruption. Earlier this week, the EFCC announced the dismissal of 27 officers for involvement in fraudulent activities and misconduct in 2024.

Oyewale explained that their dismissal was approved based on recommendations from the commission’s staff disciplinary committee.

“The EFCC remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy for corruption, and no officer will be immune to disciplinary action,” Olukoyede stated.

The EFCC’s recent actions signal a strong stance against internal misconduct. Olukoyede emphasized that the commission would continue its anti-corruption mission with integrity.

“We are determined to lead by example in the fight against corruption,” he added.

Investigations into the detained officers are ongoing, with the EFCC promising to take decisive action against those found guilty.
