The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned a former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, over allegations of fraud.
Yusuf was brought before Justice Chinyere Nwecheonwu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kuje, Abuja, on a five-count amended charge.
The charges include using his office to give himself unfair advantages between 2016 and 2017 and awarding contracts without following proper procedures.
When the charges were read to him, Yusuf pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer, O.I. Habeeb, requested that the court allow his client to remain in EFCC custody while waiting for the bail hearing.
However, Justice Nwecheonwu ruled that since Yusuf had already been arraigned, he was no longer under EFCC custody.
The judge then ordered that he be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre until February 12, 2025, when the court will hear his bail application.
