NYSC members reject COVID-19 vaccination in Borno

Some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Borno State, on Monday, refused to take the COVID-19 vaccines, citing fears of the unknown.

The corpers, who watched from a distance as other corp members took the jab during the flagging off of the vaccination exercise at the NYSC state secretariat in Maiduguri, alleged the vaccine was meant to kill them.

The NYSC members, according to Leadership Newspapers, further said that they were not properly sensitised on the COVID-19 vaccination programme. It added that some corps members claimed that they refused to take the vaccine in Maiduguri because they have not seen any press release from the NYSC headquarters in Abuja directing them to do so.

The paper quoted a corps member, who craved anonymity for fear of persecution, as saying: "I am not convinced to take the COVID-19 vaccine due to the happenings in the country and outside the country."

Another, who also did not want he name disclosed, said she wouldn't be taking the jab for health reasons.

She said: "I am not taking the vaccine for now due to my health condition. I am pregnant and for this reason, I won't be taking the jab."

Also rejecting the vaccine jab, another corps member said: "I am not taking it due to the fact that some governors and Senators in the country have not taken it to show good example of leadership."
