The phone line of Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has been hacked.
This information was shared in a warning on his official X account on Thursday.
In the post, Mamman urged the public not to communicate through the affected phone number. He wrote, “My phone line has been compromised. Please refrain from calling the number and ignore any messages requesting assistance until the issue is resolved. Thank you for your understanding.”
The Ministry of Education confirmed the hacking as well. On Friday, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, released a statement explaining that the minister’s WhatsApp number is being used by unauthorized individuals. The statement said, “The Office of the Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, wishes to inform the general public that the Minister’s WhatsApp number has been hacked and is currently being used by unauthorised individuals.”
The ministry expressed regret over the situation and advised everyone to disregard any messages received from the compromised number. They added, “We deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause and urge everyone to disregard any message of request received from the said number until further notice.”
The matter has been reported to the relevant authorities and is currently under investigation. The ministry also encouraged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
