The Edo State Police Command have arrested a 31-year-old woman who allegedly burned her teenage houseboy with hot metal objects, causing severe injuries to his private parts and legs.
According to police spokesperson Moses Yamu, the suspect, Abigail Oluwarotimi, was arrested after she attacked 15-year-old Jude Joseph on January 11, 2025, around 7:45 PM.
“The victim sustained injuries on his lap and genitals,” Yamu said in an official statement.
During questioning, Oluwarotimi admitted to the crime but claimed she acted because she believed the boy had molested her children.
The young victim is currently receiving medical treatment for his burns.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Umoru Ozigi, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a detailed investigation.
The police warned citizens against taking the law into their own hands.
“The public must allow the law to take its course rather than resort to such violent acts,” the police statement emphasized.
This incident has raised fresh concerns about the treatment of domestic workers in Nigerian homes, particularly underage helpers who are often vulnerable to abuse.
