The Edo State Government has announced that schools temporarily closed over security concerns will resume academic activities on Monday, June 15, following a review of the security situation in the affected areas.

According to The Punch, the directive was contained in a circular issued on Thursday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Enodolomwanyi Otamere.

The schools were shut earlier this week after intelligence reports raised concerns about a possible attack by bandits on some educational institutions in Edo North Senatorial District.

Governor Monday Okpebholo had ordered the temporary closure of Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School and Makeke Secondary School, all located in Akoko Edo Local Government Area, as a precautionary measure following the security alert.

The state government said the decision to reopen the schools was reached after consultations with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders.

According to the circular, additional security arrangements have been put in place to safeguard students, teachers and other members of the school community.

The government expressed confidence that the enhanced measures would provide a safe environment for learning and teaching activities to continue without disruption.

As a result, all public and private schools affected by the earlier closure order have been directed to resume normal academic and administrative operations from Monday.

The development comes amid efforts by authorities to reassure residents and strengthen security around schools following concerns about threats to educational institutions in parts of the country.
