Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has lost his local government, Oredo, to the All Progressives Congress in the Edo State Governorship Election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared the results on Sunday.
The APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, secured 30,780 votes in Oredo Local Government Area, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who is Obaseki’s preferred candidate. Ighodalo received 24,938 votes, while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party polled 5,389 votes.
The APC has claimed victory in 13 out of the 18 local government areas in Edo State. However, the PDP has raised concerns about alleged vote suppression in key areas, including Oredo, Egor, and Ikpoba/Okha.
Despite 98% of polling unit results being uploaded, party agents and observers were reportedly blocked from entering the INEC office in Benin City, where the final results were being collated.
