The Edo State Police Command has taken a significant step by handing over four-year-old Sarah, who was seen in a distressing viral video, to the State Commissioner for Gender-Based Violence, Christabel Elawu, for special custody.
The viral video depicted the little girl, half-naked, along with her father and another individual in a hotel room in Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area.
Commissioner of Police Funsho Adegboye affirmed the state government’s interest in the case, with the Commissioner for Gender and the office of the First Lady actively involved.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Adegboye disclosed that the father of the little girl, 28-year-old Musa Suleiman, has been placed under the custody of the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
He emphasized that Suleiman is undergoing discreet investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department to determine the extent of his involvement in the distressing situation.
The emotional handover took place at the state police command headquarters in Benin City, witnessed by the command’s management team, officials and staff from the Ministry of Edo State Gender-Based Violence, and members of the Edo State Coalition of Civil Society.
