Less than 24 hours after he was whisked away, abductors of the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Ibrahim Aliyu Ishaq, have demanded a ransom of N50 million.
Ishaq was allegedly kidnapped by his assailants at the weekend along the old Auchi-Ekperi- Agenebode road.
The DPO was said to be driving his private vehicle when the gunmen allegedly accosted him around Ise River.
Daily Trust reported that the gunmen fired sporadic shots into the air which forced the officer to stop before they dragged him into the bush.
Reports said the kidnappers had, however, established contact with the families demanding the payment of N50 million ransom.
Meanwhile, the command’s spokesperson could not be reached for comments as his mobile phone was switched off.
When contacted, the state’s commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu, said he is busy and will get back later.
Recall that the kidnap was reminiscent of the attack launched on the DPO of Igarra Police Station in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the State, Suleiman Muhammed, when he was shot in September by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on his way to Auchi.
