The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has refuted claims of sacking Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who also doubles as the chairman of the Edo APC Governorship Primary Election Committee.
The party clarified that Uzodinma was unavoidably absent to complete the primary election process.
APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, addressed the press in Abuja, stating, “Governor Uzodinma was neither ‘sacked’ nor ‘dropped,’ as has been erroneously reported, but was unavoidably unavailable to lead the completion of the Party’s Edo State Gubernatorial Primary Election Process.”
Morka explained that Uzodinma’s absence was due to a prior commitment to attend and present a report at the National Economic Council meeting scheduled for February 22, 2024.
“As a result, His Excellency Bassey Otu, Governor of Cross River State, who was the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, graciously accepted to serve as Chairman and to complete the Edo State Gubernatorial Primary Election Process,” Morka added.
The clarification comes in response to media reports suggesting a change in the leadership of the committee overseeing the Edo State Governorship Primary Election. The party emphasized that Uzodinma’s absence was not due to any disciplinary action but was a result of a conflicting commitment.
The APC assured the public that the primary election process would proceed smoothly under the leadership of Governor Bassey Otu to ensure a fair and transparent selection of the party’s candidate for the Edo State gubernatorial election.
